INTRODUCTION
Civil Engineering profession, although is the oldest profession did
not have a Society of its own in
India
unlike other engineering disciplines. To fill this vacuum and to improve and establish
the standards of Civil Engineering & Architectural Engineering profession the
ICE (I) was formed. The ICE (I) is registered under Societies Registration Act 1860.
The ICE (I) is committed to support and promote professional learning (both for
students and for existing practitioners), managing professional ethics and safeguarding
the status of Engineers, Architects and representing the interest of the respective
profession in dealing with the Government and various other sectors of the Society.
The Institution of Civil Engineers (India)
is the only Institution of its kind in
India
which provides avenues for quality education in Civil Engineering/Architectural
Engineering disciplines in particular. The Institution of Civil Engineers (India)
conducts the Degree and Diploma level examination in Civil Engineering & Architectural
Engineering twice a year.
Mission

To contribute to the strengthening of resources for Civil Engineering as well as
Architectural Engineering

To interface with leading institutions for knowledge sharing and engaging in research
and dissemination of related knowledge for the development and also in making it
available for the benefit of Society as well as policy making organizations.

To create institution of excellence for promoting skill based programmes in the
field of Civil Engineering as well as Architectural Engineering.

To develop content of course curriculum and research in the field of Technical Education
with special reference to Civil Engineering and Architectural Engineering

To create an environment where Civil Engineers/Architects could take active role
in the international community and where Civil Engineering/Architectural Engineering
technologies may contribute to the amenities for the people at national & international
levels.

To provide high quality educational programmes for the candidates to enable them
to achieve success in their immediate as well as long term professional careers
and as practitioners in their respective fields.

To create an understanding and appreciation of professional and ethical responsibility
in the practice of Civil & Architectural Engineering.
Objectives

The ICE (I) has been formed with the following main objectives:

To provide the awareness of professional as well as technical education.

To arrange and manage undergraduate and postgraduates programs in the field of Civil
Engineering as well as Architectural Engineering.

To conduct research in the field of technical education with special reference to
Civil and Architectural Engineering.

To provide professional literacy and other social activities by awareness program
in the form of seminars and camps.
-
To serve as an agency for effective dissemination of information related to Civil
Engineering as well as Architectural Engineering, hence to publish newsletters,
bulletins or journals and use such other means as felt necessary to further this
purpose.

To conduct vocational training program in the field of Civil Engineering.

To purchase, acquire the land and building in the name of Society and make its construction.

To publish or cause to be published and to print learning and other material developed
by the Society.

To prescribe rules and conditions for registration of candidates for appearing in
examinations in Civil Engineering as well as Architectural Engineering in consonance
with and necessary for the proper fulfillment of its objectives.

To appoint committees or sub committees as deemed fit to carry out the objectives
of the Society and to prescribe rules and regulations for the proper functioning
of such committees.

To do other things, acts, activities, which may be necessary and incidentally conducive
to the attainment of objectives of the Society.

NOTIFICATION
No.F.24-1/2007-TS.III. On the recommendation of the High Level Committee for recognition
of Educational Qualification in its meeting held on 22nd May 2007, the
Government of India has decided to give recognition to the Section A & B of
Associate Membership course, equivalent to Degree and Part-I & II of Technician
Engineers (T) equivalent to Diploma in Civil Engineering and Architecture Engineering
Courses conducted by the Institution of Civil Engineers (India), Ludhiana (Punjab)
as per syllabus approved by All India Council for Technical Educational (AICTE)
w.e.f. the academic year 2007-2008 for the purpose of employment to the posts and
services under Central Government in the appropriate field. It is subject to the
conditions that the total number of candidates who can be admitted for the said
examination would not exceed the authorized strength of concerned Institutions with
which Institutions of Civil Engineers (India),
Ludhiana
(Punjab) has entered into Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs).
A review in respect of recognition of educational qualifications shall be made by
Ministry of Human Resource Development after one year through All India Council
for Technical Educational (AICTE).

of employment.

I am directed to refer to your FAX message No. ICE (I)/29/2008/2076 dated
26th May 2008
on the above mentioned subject to this connection. It may be mentioned that the
Commission accepts degrees, which are recognized for the purpose of employment under
the Government by the competent authority viz; UGC/Ministry of Human Resource Development
AICTE, DEC etc In case of any doubt arising out in the Commission regarding the
eligibility of a candidate in so far as educational qualification is concerned,
such matters are referred to the concerned nodal authorities (mentioned above) for
requisite clarification.
2. In case the
degree under reference awarded by the Institution of Civil Engineers (India)
are duly recognized by the competent authorities for the purpose of Government employment
the Commission would not have any objection.

seeking clarification on the recognition of Associate Membership Examination of
the Institution of Civil Engineers (India).
Associate
Membership Examination of the Institution of Civil Engineers (India), New Delhi,
has been recognized by the Government of India is equivalent to Bachelor Degree
in Civil Engineering & Architectural Engineering of an Indian University for
purpose of employment where Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering & Architectural
Engineering is the prescribed eligibility qualification.
We would also like to inform you that Graduateship examination of the Indian Institution
of Industrial Engineering Navi Mumbai, Institution of Engineers (India)
and similar such Professional Bodies are accepted for Graduate Aptitude Test in
Engineering (GATE) conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) and other
universities for admission to postgraduate programme in Engineering.
As the Associate Membership Examination of the Institution
of Civil Engineers (India)
has been recognized by the Government of India for purpose of employment where Bachelor
Degree in Engineering is prescribed as a qualification, we do not foresee any difficulty
in acceptance of this qualification at Indian Universities, on merits, for admission
to higher courses.
